HAPPY FALL Y’ALL
It may be 95 degrees out there, but my calendar says fall! I’m ready for cool nights and falling leaves, and CRAFT FAIRS!!! I grew up in New Hampshire and I don’t remember all the excitement and build up and vacation-taking, school-skipping, work-ditching frenzy that goes on around here. Maybe that was because fall was a prelude to the looong winter ahead. It was the time to switch out the screens for the storm windows and stock up the wood pile. Chimney cleaners (yes, they are real) made their rounds. Fall crops were growing and folks were looking ahead to the apple harvest. Hibernation mode began.
Have I made you nostalgic at all? Ready to stay inside and sip pumpkin-spice beverages and play board games? Newcomers Club offers lots of options for “indoor sports” as we Yankees like to call them. Check out the website and see if there’s an activity you’d like to try. Mah Jongg training is coming up if you’d like to get in on that action. If you prefer the outdoors, Take-A-Hike will get you stomping thru the leaves as they change colors and fall. Try it, you’ll like it…
I want to say a great big THANK YOU to our generous group for collecting over $500 for Magdalene Serenity House at our September coffee meeting! I’m also impressed with the little magnet lists created by Mary Cay & Paulette so we can see what kinds of things we can bring in the future. This is such a worthy cause!
I want to encourage you to spread the word and invite a friend or two to our October 14th coffee meeting and give them the opportunity to Discover our World (on Columbus Day of course).
See you soon…
Sue
OCTOBER COFFEE – MONDAY OCTOBER 14TH – 9:30 A.M.
Our program topic will be: Healthcare Fraud & Scams - Your money is being stolen!
Kathleen Pursell has been with the AR SMP program since 2006, becoming Director in 2012. Dee Edwards is the Volunteer Coordinator, and has been working with Kathleen since 2016. Kathleen and Dee enjoy working throughout the state helping to protect senior citizens from becoming victims of the scams targeting them; and educating them about ways they can help to preserve the Medicare Trust Fund.

Magdalene Serenity House update - This is to let you know that our Newcomers group contributed $543.00 at the September meeting. Thank you for your generous support!
Brag Kitty
We’re going to change it up a little. Due to the lengthly amount of time taken up by brag kitty, we are now including Non-profit/charities in the “no promotions” category.
Directory News - Tina Torres, NC Directory
Our new printed directory will be available at the October 14 Coffee meeting; we encourage everyone to come by to pick one up. This is a full reprint of the entire directory, which we do every two years.
If you are unable to attend the meeting, you can let your activity chair know that you would like one brought to the next activity, and we will coordinate if we can.
Membership – Mona Jones
As of September 16, 170 members renewed their memberships and 17 new members joined – a total of 187 FNC members. The window closed on paying dues to be included in the hardcover FNC Directory, but it is never too late to pay and be included in the phone directory. This directory is always up-to-date and only requires a simple app download. Information and instructions can be found in the “Members Only” section of the website (same login password).
