SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER

21-21 September Shelly pic 09-01-21.jpg

Mark your calendars! Save the date! 9-13-21

We start at 9:30, so don’t be late!

It’s a new location, with old and new friends.

We hope you can join us--IN PERSON—again!

As you read this letter, children all over NWA are back in school, seeing friends for the first time since last May, with many of those students meeting in person for the first time since March of 2020.  I guess I feel a little like those kids, because I am so excited that we will be able to see one another again this month.

Our September Monthly Member Meeting will be Monday, September 13th, at First United Presbyterian Church.  Our meeting will take place in the Witherspoon Activity Center. This is a new location for us, and I am grateful that we will be able to use one of their beautiful spaces.  Our social time begins at 9:30 AM and Activity Tables will be set up for questions and sign-up.  April Bachrodt, from Magdalene Serenity House, is our guest speaker, and she will begin her presentation at 10:00 AM.

The Church requires that we wear masks indoors, and I will have extra masks at the door for those who need them.  There is a lovely patio outside our room, and plenty of space for social distancing. We won’t be serving coffee at this meeting, but you are welcome to bring a beverage. The staff of First United Presbyterian hopes that we will be able to serve refreshments again soon, but they are following health guidelines to keep us all safe.

First United Presbyterian Church is located at 695 E. Calvin Street. From Old Wire Road, go up Birwin Street to the top of the hill and you’ll see the church. You may park on Knox Street and walk past the big church bell to the courtyard. From the courtyard, turn left and you will see the patio outside the Witherspoon Activity Center. It’s circled in red on the map so you can see the entrance from Birwin Street.  (If you go up Calvin Street, turn left on Knox and you’ll see the entrance to the courtyard). Also, there are several handicap parking spots in the parking area to the left of the bell. We will have a Newcomer’s sign on the patio by the entrance.

I know changes can be tricky, so I hope these directions are easy to follow. If you have any questions at all, please email, call, or text me and I will be glad to help.

Let’s mark our calendars, let’s save the date! Let’s get together, and let’s make it great!

News and Updates

NOMINATIONS NEEDED FOR PROGRAM VP!

Due to family obligations, Sue Schroeder has had to step down from her position as Newcomers President. Since I will be stepping in to fill the President's spot, we need a new Program Vice President. The Program VP assists the President and works as part of the Board to help provide programming at our Newcomers monthly meetings. If you are interested, or you know someone who would be a good candidate, please email, call, or text one of the current Board members, or talk to one of us at the meeting on September 13.

The Newcomers Club By-Laws were revised last year, but still need to be approved by our members. We will vote on the revisions at the September 13 meeting, so please look at the By-Laws before the meeting. They are on our website: www.fayettevillenewcomers.com  password is newcomers; select Club Business and then select By Laws April 2020. The By-Laws that are being revised are all underlined, so they're easy to recognize

The Board met recently and discussed the possibility of adding a Zoom link to our future in-person meetings, but we need your input. Would you like to have the option of attending the monthly meetings via Zoom? If you aren't comfortable with in-person meetings quite yet, would you be willing to attend via Zoom?  We need your thoughts as we move forward, and would welcome your feedback. Please contact one of the Board members via email, phone call, or text, and let us know what you think! Board members are listed on our webpage (link above), under About Us, Board Roster.
