JUNE 2020 Newsletter
Are We Having Fun Yet?
(Cause I sure can’t tell…)
Can you believe it is June? It seems like the cool, rainy weather has gone on forever making it feel like it’s still March then suddenly – boom – here it is June! I don’t know about you, but I’ve lost all track of time. I literally must ask myself what day it is. If I were to have to take one of those cognitive tests right now where they ask you the day and date, I’d fail for sure!
I don’t know if I’m ready for summer or not. I sure am ready to get out and about WITH PEOPLE, though. I was really hoping the restrictions would have been lifted by now. Unfortunately, it just isn’t safe for people in the “at risk” category to meet in large numbers. After seeing the images of folks partying over the Memorial Day weekend, though, it seems everyone else can do what they want, regardless of the consequences! I would be devastated if just one member became infected because of attending a Newcomers activity.
What does this mean for our group? Well, it means no general membership meetings for at least another month. Our BINGO luncheon has been postponed (again). Activity groups are not meeting unless they can do so safely. I know the take-a-hike group has been meeting to have lunch outside in a park. Chairs are spaced 6 ft apart and everyone wears a mask when not eating. What a great idea! It isn’t exercising, but it’s an opportunity to socialize safely. Sadly, we just can’t make that work for everybody at once.
In the meantime, I hope everyone remains healthy. The summer is coming – COVID or no COVID. Get out and enjoy some fresh air and sunshine if you can. It hasn’t been confirmed that sunlight kills the virus, but I know it helps to improve my mood so that’s enough for me. I’m glad we won’t be getting the invasion of the 17-year cicadas that the Virginias and Carolinas are expecting. I can’t even imagine the racket that an estimated 1.5 million critters per acre will make! I think I’d need some earplugs to get any sleep. If anyone has plans to travel there this summer, let me know how loud it gets (ha, ha, ha).
Until we meet (safely) again…
Sue
News and Updates
Membership – Mona Jones:
In a “normal” year we would start collecting dues at the April meeting, but that didn’t happen due to the Covid-19 Virus. Dues will remain the same for 2020-2021 – only $20! If you are just sitting around contemplating cutting your hair or cleaning the closet for the 3rd time, decide instead to send your FNC dues to:
Mona Jones
3011 N. Sheryl Avenue
Fayetteville AR 72703
The walk to the mailbox will do you good and being practical - the dues are needed to continue to meet our club obligations. 😊 Stay safe and hope to see you all soon! And email, text or call me if you're unsure whether you have paid.
